NIMSAT Institute and UL Lafayette Researchers Win US Ignite Development Awards

US Ignite, a Washington-based non-profit sponsored by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, recently awarded the NIMSAT Institute and UL Lafayette researchers with three Application Development Awards for 2017. The awards support technology development efforts that were initiated as part of the City of Lafayette's participation in the national Smart Gigabit Communities program. The three technology development projects that were recognized included:

CrisisEyeTM - Led by Dr. Raju Gottumukkala, CrisisEyeTM is a situational awareness platform for emergency responders that synthesizes live video from multiple sources (i.e. mobile application, body cameras, and street cameras) into a single dashboard where the incident commander can prioritize the importance of the videos and control the video output. The dashboard will save time, money, and create efficiency in providing real-time intelligence to cooperating agencies.

Kvasir-VR - Led by Dr. Christoph Borst, Kvasir-VR provides a collaborative multi-user virtual reality (VR) environment that injects a livestreamed instructor into a learning environment through the use of real-time scanning.

Lafayette Engagement and Research Network (LEaRN) - Led by Matthew Delcambre, LEaRN is a joint project of the UL Lafayette Center for Business & Information Technologies, CGI and Lafayette Consolidated Government that expands the use of a data sharing API to harvest real-time environmental and city sensors of all kinds.
