The Louisiana Business Emergency Operations Center (LA BEOC) is being relocated to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) Research Park.  The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies (NIMSAT) Institute will hold a dedication ceremony Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 4:00 pm.  The event will include a ribbon cutting, open house and reception.

The LA BEOC is a unique public-private partnership and the first of its kind in the nation.  The partnership among local and state government, private-sector businesses, nonprofits and university resources provides a greater degree of collaboration and enhances the preparedness and resilience of communities to reduce the risk from natural and man-made disasters.  In the event a disaster occurs, the partnership facilitates the recovery of businesses and communities, the restoration of the local economy and the social life of the community.

“The BEOC concept was developed as part of the lessons learned following past emergencies,” said GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis.  “It benefits all citizens of Louisiana by integrating our disaster response with private sector organizations. The BEOC is the primary link between the state and business and industry in order to provide critical resources using the most efficient methods.”

The LA BEOC supports GOHSEP in building a public-private partnership across the state to ensure every community is prepared and resilient against potential disasters.

GOHSEP can use the BEOC to reach nearly 2,200 registered members within the state’s business and industry associations with disaster-specific communications.  Enrollment is open to any Louisiana business or organization.  There is no cost to be a LA BEOC member.

The BEOC also serves as the alternate state Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in the event the primary SEOC located at GOHSEP’s Baton Rouge headquarters is incapacitated or unable to activate due to a disaster requiring the evacuation of the area.
